It is a fact of life that we can’t predict when many of life’s unfortunate events may occur. However, you can make plans now that can protect you and your loved ones should they occur.

Protection is probably one of the most important areas of financial planning, but unfortunately many people fail to make arrangements until it is too late.

The important questions to ask yourself are, what would happen if:

• I was unable to work due to accident or illness
• I was made redundant
• I was diagnosed with a critical illness
• I was to die tomorrow

Many people believe that their employer will provide benefits that will cover them. Others believe that “the State” will provide. Unfortunately, in many cases, these beliefs are misguided and many people are surprised to find that they are wrong.

It is therefore very important to review your protection arrangements on a regular basis. If you have not done so for some time, we would recommend you do so immediately.
