The day-long event featured an array of pop and rock music performances from artists such as Sussex Kings of Harmony, Tobias, former Stars in Their Eyes finalist Cylvian Flynn, Smokin’ Joe, and Dave Wilson (jazz piano). Attendees also enjoyed dance acts by Sussex Show Dancers and Alegria Spanish dancing, along with illusion performances by Marco the Magician. A special musical tribute to Elton John by Sam Wilson and tunes from Alanis MorrissNot added to the diverse entertainment.

Mayor Inglesfield praised the event, stating, “What a fantastic event organized by our local Rotary branch.” She extended her thanks to the Orchards Shopping Centre for hosting and sponsoring the event, and she expressed her gratitude towards the Rotary Club of Cuckfield, Lindfield, and Haywards Heath for their support of a variety of charities, including local causes like Kangaroos, The Bentswood Hub, and Grove Garden.

She was also pleased to see Time4Children, her chosen charity of the year as mayor, among those benefiting from the event.

Mayor Inglesfield highlighted various performances, including a special mention of Rotarian Mike Oliver and his Smokin’ Joe band. Mike Oliver performed a duet with Cylvian Flynn at the conclusion of her set.

The event was led by Rotarians David Wilson and Mike Oliver, both from Cuckfield, Lindfield, and Haywards Heath, who collaborated with Orchards manager Nicola Bird to organize the event.

Nicola Bird expressed her satisfaction with the collaboration, noting, “It has been a pleasure to work with the local Rotary Club on this exciting initiative. I am always humbled by the breadth and depth of talent on our doorstep, and it was so kind of them to support us today. People of all ages were foot-tapping and singing along to the well-known numbers. It really gave joy to our shoppers.”

Mid Sussex MP Mims Davies also acknowledged the performers who dedicated their time to support local charities, referring to Rotary Rocks as a celebration of exceptional talents.

Mike Oliver expressed gratitude to all participants in Rotary Rocks, including performers and fellow Rotarians. He acknowledged the considerable talent present in Mid Sussex, with performers spanning a wide age range. Their contributions collectively supported important local charities. Given the event’s success, Mike expressed his hope for Rotary Rocks to become an annual town tradition.

Charities that benefitted from Rotary Rocks included Age UK, Air Ambulance, British Legion-Poppy Wreaths, Chestnut Tree House, Family Support Work, Grassroots – suicide first aid training, Impact Foundation, Kangaroos, Know Dementia, Rotary Foundation, St Peter & St James Hospice, and Time4Children.
